Changing your page address and what happens to the old link

You change the address in the page Settings → “Link URL & Domain”. The old address and any QR code downloaded from “Share” stop working as soon as you save; only the bkly.link short address and the QR code on your Wallet card keep working.

You change the address in the page Settings → “Link URL & Domain”. The old address and any QR code downloaded from “Share” stop working as soon as you save; only the bkly.link short address and the QR code on your Wallet card keep working.

How to do it

  1. Open the page in the editor and click “Settings” — the gear icon at the top.
  2. Go to “Link URL & Domain”.
  3. Type the new address into “Page URL”. A warning appears under the field: “Changing the URL will break the old link — anyone using it will see a 404.”
  4. Click “Save”.

You can do the same in “General”: “Page address” → “Edit” → “Save”. The warning there reads: “The old link will stop working right after saving.” On your phone the path is the same: “Settings” at the top of the editor → “Link URL & Domain” → new address → “Save”.

  • The old address stops working at once. Anyone who opens it gets a 404 page: “This page went out for coffee and never came back.”
  • There’s no redirect from the old address to the new one, and no address history. The old address is freed, and someone else can take it.
  • Update the link yourself wherever it appears: social media bios, profile headers, ads and websites.
  • A QR code downloaded from “Share” → “Share QR code” → “Download QR code” contains the plain page address. After the change it leads to a 404 — download a new one and reprint it.
  • The bkly.link short address and the QR code on your Wallet card don’t break: they point to the new address straight away.

The bkly.link short address

Every page has a permanent bkly.link short address. It’s “created with the page and never changes — this is what the QR code on your digital cards opens”. You’ll find it in Settings → “Link URL & Domain” → “Short link”, with a “Copy” button next to it.

Tip: if your page address might change, use the short address in your bio and on printed materials — it survives any change.

If something goes wrong

The new address won’t save

The address has to follow a few rules. Here’s what each message means:

  • “Only lowercase latin letters, digits and hyphens.” (or “…digits and dashes.”) — no Cyrillic, spaces, dots or underscores.
  • “This address is too short.” or “The address must be at least 6 characters.” — use at least 6 characters. The longest address is 60 characters.
  • “This address isn’t available on the platform.” — the address is reserved; pick another one.
  • “This address is already taken.” — another page has it. Hyphens and letter case don’t count here: if jane-doe is taken, so is janedoe. Add a city or a word about your work, for example jane-nails-london.

There’s no automatic redirect, so update the link everywhere it’s posted. If nobody has taken the old address yet, you can simply switch back to it the same way: “Link URL & Domain” → old address → “Save”.

My QR code stopped working

A QR code downloaded from “Share” before the change still points to the old address. Download a new one: “Share” → “Share QR code” → “Download QR code”. The QR code on your Wallet card doesn’t need updating.

  • My page link doesn’t open

Most often the page address was changed or the page was deleted — then visitors see “This page went out for coffee and never came back.” Other causes: a switched-off block, a password or 18+ check on the link, a deactivated short link, or a suspended account.
