Sign in with a backup code: on the code screen, click “Use a recovery code”. As soon as you’re in, connect the authenticator app on your new phone and create new backup codes.

Backup codes are the 8 codes in the XXXX-XXXX format that Bookly showed you when you turned on two-factor authentication (2FA). Each one works only once.

How to sign in without your phone

  1. Sign in as usual — with your password or an email code.
  2. On the “Enter your authentication code” screen, click “Use a recovery code”.
  3. Enter one of the backup codes you saved and click “Confirm and sign in”.

Other ways in: if SMS codes are on as well and you still have your SIM card, click “Get a code by SMS”. And a browser where you passed 2FA in the last 3 days won’t ask for a code at all.

Right after you sign in

  1. Open Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication (2FA).
  2. Next to “Authenticator app”, click “Turn off” and confirm with your password and a backup code.
  3. Connect the app on your new phone — here’s how.
  4. Create new backup codes: next to “Backup codes”, click “Regenerate” and enter a code from the new app. The old codes will stop working.

Changed your phone number too? SMS codes to the new number are paused for 48 hours after the change — until then, sign in with the app or a backup code.

Backup codes

“If you lose access to your phone, you can use these codes to sign in. Each code can be used once.” There are 8 of them. Keep the codes away from your phone so they don’t get lost along with it. You can see how many are left in Security → Two-factor authentication (2FA): “… of 8 unused”.

If something goes wrong

“Enter a recovery code” — but you have no codes

If you didn’t save the backup codes and have no SMS codes or no SIM card, you can’t sign in on your own. Try a browser where you passed 2FA in the last 3 days — no code is needed there. If there isn’t one, see the next point.

No app, no SMS and no backup codes
